Rationale

This project is based on early intervention principles.  If we can encourage young people

to explore their attitudes, motivation and desire to achieve academically at a younger age, then young people are more likely to reach their full potential.    This approach is based upon the cognitive dissonance paradigm, which considers individual complexities associated with living in the 'real' world and takes into account the knowledge base of young people, peer pressure, self-esteem and lots of other variables that are interdependent, and which ultimately impact on decision making processes.

This early intervention model will build upon expectation and aspiration, challenging mis-informed ideals, to support young people to form realistic and achievable goals for the future.  A long term investment project, that has measurable outcomes to evidence impact throughout the key stages (teacher assessments, Standard Assessment Tests (SATs)

We are committed to active participation and voice of the child – we will routinely evaluate the programme, to ensure that young people enjoy the activities, and consider that the time they have spent on the programme is worthwhile and valuable to them.  Young people will also be given the opportunity to influence chosen activities for sessions, which will all relate to education or future careers (building aspiration).

Project Objectives

  1. To work in partnership with Virtual School to increase educational attendance and attainment of looked after children (LAC) by promoting the importance of education.

   2. To raise personal levels of aspiration, self-esteem, resilience and motivation.

   3. To support young people in the care system to make informed decisions                 about their futures (focusing on education and future employment).
